NATA Welcomes Two New Board Members

DALLAS, June 16, 2015 – The National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) will formally welcomed two new board members at its 66th annual convention at the America’s Center in St. Louis, June 22-27, 2015. Mark Coberley, MS, ATC, LAT, succeeds NATA’s outgoing District Five Director Eric McDonnell, MEd, ATC, LAT, and AJ Duffy, III, MS, ATC, PT, will replace District Two Director Michael Goldenberg, MS, ATC.
 
“This is an exciting time to help lead the organization and we will all benefit from the combined vision, commitment, enthusiasm and experience of our new board members,” said President-elect Scott Sailor, EdD, ATC, who assumes his presidency during the convention. “I welcome them to their new roles and look forward to all they will contribute in the years ahead.”
 
Mark Coberley
Mark Coberley, MS, ATC, LAT, is director of sports medicine and associate athletics director for sports medicine at Iowa State University, where he has been part of the sports medicine department since 1993. In addition, he teaches in the athletic training education program and lectures nationally on athletic injury management, rehabilitation and administration. Prior to his current position, he served as assistant athletic trainer/head basketball athletic trainer at Iowa State. Before joining the university, he worked at Wichita State University and Sunnyside High School in Tucson, Arizona.
 
In addition to his work on numerous NATA committees, Coberley haspreviously served as president of the Iowa Athletic Trainers’ Society, chair of the Big 12 Conference Medical Aspects of Sport Committee and chair of the State of Iowa Athletic Training Licensing Board. A native of New London, Iowa, he earned his undergraduate degree at Iowa State University and graduate degree from the University of Arizona.
 
AJ Duffy
AJ Duffy, III, MS, ATC, PT, just completed his twenty-fifth year as head athletic trainer and physical therapist as well as assistant professor of physical education at Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania. In addition, for the last 24 years, he has taught therapeutic exercise as an adjunct faculty member at Temple University in Philadelphia, and he has spoken at the local, regional and national levels on various athletic training topics. He previously worked for six years at the University of Michigan and two years at Temple University.

Duffy is a past president of the Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association and the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society and is currently the treasurer for District Two of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. A native of Jackson, Michigan, he received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, graduate degree from the University of Arizona and physical therapy degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia.

 
NATA is divided into 10 geographic districts. District Two, which Duffy will lead, covers Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania; District Five which will be championed by Coberley, includes Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota.
